Peter M Hofmann was born in Lima,
Peru in 1973 and spent his first years between Sweden and Switzerland, where he
became a Swiss citizen. As a child, Peter moved with his parents to Venezuela
and grew up in Maracay, known as the “City Garden”. Surrounded of the green
tropical valley where the famous “Henri Pittier” national park and rainforest
reserve reside next to the most beautiful Caribbean beaches. At 7th Peter
became obsessed with the Lego kits his father would bring him from his travels
abroad. Peter’s father worked as consulting engineer in the pioneering of the
packaging we know today as “Tetrapak” and his mother was a promising tv actress
for Peru’s Panamericana channel. Creativity and the arts were highly encouraged
in the household and shortly thereafter, peter was accepted into the fine arts
program at the Casa de la Cultura de Maracay. there he excelled in advanced
courses in sculpture and painting while developing a book of poetry essay
called Hacia el Sur (heading south) based on legends of the Incas, lost
civilizations of south America and the Spanish colonial occupation, accompanied
with ink drawings. over the years peter also stood out as newspaper writer and
draftsman of banners and billboards, formed part of young poets society of
Maracay, with about 36 of his poems published in the regional press.
Peter has always been fascinated
by the notion of multifunctional architecture. Since he had a passion for
travel, he decided to obtain complementary degrees in tourism administration
and architecture. After receiving his degree in tourism, Peter entered the
architectural program at the “José Maria Vargas University” of Caracas, and
later moved to the “Santiago Mariño University” of Valencia. His inspiration
during these years was strongly based on the work of French architect Jacques
Rougerie focusing on the balance between built space and conservation of the
natural environment. his projects therefore had a strong ecological component
thus resulting in the development of infrastructure for natural museums and
national parks with a strong emphasis on regional culture. some of the titles
of these projects were: marine museum and oceanarium, park for the natural
sciences, ecological coastal cabana, housing desert, convertible catholic
church, among others. Peter graduated magna cum laude in 2004 after receiving
the highest honor of mention publication on his thesis dissertation where he
created a multi-purpose concession area for the Universidad Central de
Venezuela. During his college career, Peter also had the pleasure of working
with renown architects such as Eduardo Sanabria, Fruto Vivas (Venezuela) and
Juvenal Baracco (Peru).
Shortly after graduation, Peter
travelled to Europe where he collaborated with the atelier BW1 and fell in love
with the Helvetic design aesthetic. Also from this cultural encounter, he
left with a newfound sensibility for detail oriented optimization of resources
in the construction process. this experience proved to be fruitful applied to
the Venezuelan market, allowing to establish his own architectural
consulting firm in the hometown of Maracay. There he provided services in
schematic design and artistic rendering for small and medium scaled projects.
Peter also performed in the capacity of project manager for the major retail
outlet, Traki group under the tutelage of Trina Duran, the principal and owner. Being
considered highly effective in addressing a client’s needs and translating them
into objective and innovative designs, Peter has been able to acquire an
extensive network of colleagues and clientele on 3 different continents. in
2006, He returned to college as preparation for leaving the country by the
serious political and social convulsion, he obtained a construction management
diploma at the metropolitan university of Venezuela.
Currently Peter
Martin is recently married and resides with his wife
Barbara in the city of Boynton Beach, South Florida area; where is placed the atelier, as small scale architectural services firm. Offering customized design solutions of contemporary style with high sensitive to environment.
